I was asked By S magazine which is kind of high end erotica/fashion to contribute to their 'Play' issue. I had been interested in gothic horror movies and the sexualization and exploitation that went on in the B movies of the 60's and 70's. I was also interested in why certain sexual themes seem to crop up all the time in them and in fetishism eg vampire nuns and virgin sacrifice. I decided to put Fetish and porn together with gothic horror and play with the results.

I enjoy the frivolity and unashamed enjoyment in the sex and gore of these films and their posters and whilst I recognize their tendency towards political incorrectness I relish the side of humanity that they stimulate - guilty pleasures I suppose. I wanted to put some of the tongue in cheek humour obviously evident in these posters into the work I did.

What is it with vampiric nuns? I suppose it's just about the ultimate corruption.

I wanted to make reference to where the word Zombie actually comes from - Haitian Voodoo witch doctors enslaving supposedly dead people to work for them. One of the most famous depictions of a caribbean witch doctor was in the Bond Film Live and Let Die, so I based my witch doctor on him.

Of course a very common theme in horror B movies was the virgin sacrifice in order to conjure up the devil or appease some evil spirit. And of course a good vehicle to portray a helpless, nubile, naked girl.

No collection of gothic horror themes could miss out the Frankenstien story, I named mine re-animatrix playing on the theme of bondage and the dominatrix inspired by the film The Re-animator (original poster of which is in the composite image earlier in this sequence)

The Call of Cthulhu is a story By H. P. Lovecraft - one of the great masters of Gothic Horror, about a horrific tentacled creature much older than the human race, that surfaces on an island thrown up by a huge underwater earth quake. I wanted to use a Lovecraft theme and this one fits nicely with a peculiar fetish loved by the japanese - tentacle sex. The first example of which is surprisingly old - painted in 1814 by Hokusai, the image shows a young woman engaging in sex with two octopi. More recently it has been suggested that tentacle sex in Hentai films became popular because of the censorship applied to the erect penis in Japan.

Unfortunately I ran out of time, I wanted to to these vampire sisters and a Mummy was up on the list, I was also thinking of going sci-fi and doing stuff with giant robots etc etc, maybe I'll get round to it one day.
